So far, about 1 million species of insects have been described, which constitutes about 75% of all known species occurring in both the animal and plant world. Due to the huge number and diversity of the insect world, these organisms are found in various ecosystems all over the globe. They have always accompanied people and play an important role in their lives. On the one hand, they are enemies with which man constantly fights, and on the other hand, they are his allies to be protected. During the lecture, both aspects will be discussed, including the role of insects in plant pollination, their use in medicine and science, their use as food for humans, a source of various raw materials, their role in biological warfare, in transmitting human and animal pathogens, and as pests of plants and stored products.
