The John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin (KUL) is one of the oldest Polish universities. Founded in 1918, it is among the first achievements of Poles after regaining independence, as well as the first Polish university to reopen after the Second World War. In communist times, it was called an island of freedom and an oasis of free thought. Today, being the oldest Catholic university in East-Central Europe, it integrates over a hundred years of tradition and state-of-the-art research, pursuing the ideals of its founder and the first rector, Rev. Idzi Radziszewski.
