The cerebral cortex, the hippocampus, the amygdala.... these are the structures of the mammalian brain that anyone interested in anatomy has heard more than once. But beside the mentioned there are others like the pituitary gland. This structure of the size of a pea which affects our weight, skin and hair appearance and in consequence allows us to grow and mature. There are a few processes in our body which are not, at least indirectly, related to the work of the pituitary gland. Another small structure is the pineal gland, "the seat of the soul" as described by the philosopher Descartes. It secretes melatonin, the "sleep hormone" and is able to produce a potent hallucinogenic compound called dimethyltryptamine (DMT). The effect of DMT might be experienced only in relation to three different life situations.

And has anyone heard of the precuenus? Tiny, located within the hemispheres of the brain, considered as the habitat of .....happiness!!! A greater precuenus is more frequently found in people who more intensely feel happiness than sadness, and who are able to find more deep meaning in their lives than others.

Are you curious about what else "lives" in our brain? Come and enjoy our presentation!!!
