The project was done with the idea of eliminating the negative impact of automotive vehicles on the environment. Currently, many vehicles are powered by fossil fuels that cause many side effects such as exhaust fumes, used batteries, and non-recyclable waste. The Hydros vehicle was built with the goal of achieving the lowest possible environmental impact. The assumptions of the project have been fulfilled thanks to, among others, the use of hydrogen as a fuel. This type of fuel makes it possible to generate electricity directly in the vehicle using a fuel cell. This electric energy will power an efficient electric engine. The advantage of this solution is the complete absence of exhaust fumes emitted by the vehicle. The only side effect is water vapour which is harmless to the environment. The vehicle was built from composite materials. The main advantage of this solution is to obtain a low weight of the vehicle while maintaining sufficient rigidity of the monocoque. Moreover, these materials have the possibility of recycling when the structure is worn out. Hydros is also a good answer to the situation when fossil fuel resources run out. The electrical efficiency and performance of the vehicle is tested by students at the Shell Eco-marathon international competition.

The main goal of the competition is to achieve the lowest possible fuel consumption while maintaining time-efficient driving on the track. The Hydrogreen team from Lublin University of Technology has been participating in this competition since 2017 in the category of hydrogen fuelled prototype vehicles. In 2018 it placed 6th in its category and in 2020 it won in the Best Design category competition.

The project that we are carrying out at the Scientific Club of Aircraft Propulsion learns good organization of work of the whole team. In order to achieve the best possible results we are divided into several project groups, i.e. mechanical, electrical and marketing sections. All team members share a passion for learning and building new vehicles that use alternative fuels such as hydrogen or electricity. The science club enables all members to develop their passions and gain experience in practice. Also, while working on a vehicle we learn responsibility and regularity, thus discovering our strengths.
