From the Grameen Bank in Bangladesh to the participatory budget in Porto Alegre - social innovations have changed the modern world for the better. Empowering the marginalized groups of the society and increasing the accountability of political decision-makers are among the most important goals of social innovations, often seen as perfect tools of bottom-up, grassroots democracy.
The goal of the mini-lecture is to inspire anyone interested in how social innovations work and what makes them stand out among other innovation types. The lecture is based on inspiring case studies from different continents and countries, including Brazil, Poland and Tanzania.
The selection of cases not only offers insights into the key roots of social innovations' success, but it also helps understand why not every innovative solution takes a radical shape, offering long-lasting societal impacts.
