In 2000 the United Nations adopted Millenium Development Goals (one of them was to achieve universal primary education) and in 2015 - Sustainable Development Goals (Goal No. 4 is Quality Education). The coordinator of the project invited UMCS students from Central and East Afirica to explain the situation of education in their own countries and share their experience of being a pupil there. The aim of the project is to present problems and challenges, but also what African societies have to offer. Mobile money (M-Pesa) is only one of the examples of innovations created in East Africa. The 21st century is called the era of knowledge. In economics human capital is the crucial factor of the social and economic growth. That is why raising the quality of education is so important. Unfortunately, not all parents in the world can afford to send their children to school, which means the loss of potential to develop the country.

From the lecture you will be able to learn, among others:

  • What are similarities and differences between schools in Poland and Burundi, Cameroon, Kenya or Tanzania?
  • What are the biggest challenges facing the education in these countries?
  • What are some of the innovations?

You will be able to ask students questions concerning different aspects of education.
